"The Scholar Who Walks the Night" is based on the eponymous web comic about a romance between a female scholar and a vampire during Korea's Joseon era.

Screenwriter Jang Hyun-joo previously helped write the screenplay of the 2007 hit drama series "Coffee Prince." Director Lee Seong-jun is known for his period TV dramas.

Director Lee said that filming would be difficult with the approach of Korea's rainy season in July and lots of night scenes, but asked cast and crew members to participate energetically.

"The Scholar Who Walks the Night" is scheduled to start broadcasting in July after the current MBC drama series "Warm and Cozy."
