Upcoming period crime film "Assassination" -- starring actors Jun Ji-hyun, Ha Jung-woo and Lee Jung-jae -- will be released in July.

A teaser trailer was released last week, three months ahead of its official release.

"Assassination" is set in colonial Shanghai and Seoul in 1933. Jun, Ha and Lee play an independence fighter, a provisional government official and a contract killer, respectively.

Together, they conspire against the Japanese colonial government, which ruled Korea from 1907 until its defeat in World War II.

In the teaser, Jun pares down her popular seductive and glamorous image for a more austere, bespeckled role, which is being marketed as potentially her first "serious" role.

"Assassination" is directed by Choi Dong-hun, who previously directed and cowrote the film "The Thieves" in 2012, which also starred actress Jun.
