'Avengers' sequel tops 6 mln viewers in S. Korea
(Avengers) |
The superhero flick exceeded the 6 million mark in attendance on Saturday, the 10th day of its run, according to the Walt Disney Co. Korea.
The film, the sequel to the 2012 work "The Avengers," has also grossed more than 51.2 billion won ($47.66 million).
The Avengers 2 reached the 6 million milestone, just one day after it passed the 5 million mark on the May Day.
It set a record as the fastest foreign film to hit 6 million in local box-office, beating 12 days for "Iron Man 3" (2013), 17 days for "Avatar"(2009) and 17 days for "Interstellar" (2014) and 18 days for "Frozen" (2014).
Industry experts forecast that If the current pace continues, the Avengers sequel will soon pass the number of attendance for "The Avengers," which drew 7.07 million people, to become the most-viewed film so far this year.
Directed by Joss Whedon, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" is about the superhero team's fight against destructive plan by the villain Ultron.
The movie has drawn wide public attention in South Korea as it was partly shot in Seoul, and members of the star-studded cast, including Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, visited Seoul earlier this month to promote the film. South Korean actress Claudia Kim has a small role in it. (Yonhap)
