Actress Ku Hye-sun’s shoddy acting in the drama “Blood” is fueling controversy, along with its low viewer ratings of around 5 percent.

As the medical fantasy soap features a vampire story that is unfamiliar to many local viewers, the lead actors’ acting skills seem pretty important to keep viewers immersed.

As the heroine, Ku plays Yoo Ri-ta who has complex character. She is the snooty and whimsical niece of a business tycoon and tenderhearted surgeon who sympathizes with the pains of patients. Since her first appearance in the second episode, her exaggerated tone and unnatural facial expression has drawn flak.

Viewers are even more distracted by the poor acting skills of Ahn Jae-hyun, who takes the lead role in this drama for the first time in his acting career.

Industry watchers said it remains to be seen whether the drama manages to overcome the early challenges of serious awkwardness and unfamiliar plot to become the first hit medical fantasy drama.

The KBS drama “Blood” airs every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 p.m.
