South Korean singer and actor Kim Hyun-joong was slapped with a fine on Tuesday for committing assault.

The prosecution said that it had levied a fine of 5 million won ($4,600) on the 28-year-old idol for using violence against his former girlfriend.

“While Kim claimed that he had no intention of hurting her, the damage from the attack was clear,” the prosecutors said.

Kim was accused of assaulting his former girlfriend last May, after which it took her two weeks to recover.

The woman filed a complaint against him in August for beating her on multiple occasions between May and mid-July last year.

She claimed that the attack broke out while arguing with Kim over “women issues” at his home in eastern Seoul. The assault left her with bruises and broken ribs, she alleged.

Kim only partially admitted to the charges at first, saying that he accidentally hurt her while trying out some marital arts techniques.

But he later made an official apology to her, fully admitting his wrongdoing.

In response, his ex-girlfriend dropped two of four charges against him.
