Kim played the historical figure Yi Sun-sin in the TV drama, displaying his charisma and humanity as a leader and a hero in a war-torn time. The drama proved a great hit, recording up to 30 percent viewership. Kim also won the overall grand prize at the 2005 KBS Drama Awards for his role in the drama.
“Playing Yi Sun-sin is so far the greatest honor that ever happened to me,” said Kim after receiving the award.
