Taeyang, a member of boy band Big Bang, won the grand prize at the 29th Golden Disc Awards, held in Beijing, on Wednesday.

He snagged the Digital Single of the Year, regarded as the top honor of the day, with his mega-hit solo track “Eyes, Nose, Lips.”

K-pop boy band BEAST was another winner of the day, capturing three honors -- Main Award, Popularity Award and the Best Male Performance Award.

Another Popularity Award went to long-standing girl group Girls’ Generation.

The Main Award for the 10 distinguished artists of 2014 were dominated by female artists -- AOA, Ailee, HyunA, Girl’s Day, and SISTAR -- but male artists BEAST and Taeyang did receive recognition.

Rookie bands GOT7 and WINNER jointly won the New Artist Award.

The music award ceremony, however, was missing some K-pop stars as they failed to obtain the requisite visa to enter China, where the event was held.

The two-day award ceremony will continue on Thursday, with the winner for the major honors to be decided.

Started in 1986, the annual Golden Disc Awards has broadened its presence as South Korea’s representative music awards.
