BTS holds surprise broadcast

Now that the new single “On” is out and BTS is promoting its new album, the band held a surprise broadcast for its fans, the BTS Army.

Since all its offline events have been canceled or delayed due to the spread of the new coronavirus, the band announced the Naver
V Live broadcast on the spur of the moment with no advance notice. It took place two days before Suga’s birthday, which falls March 9.

“Today’s March 7, and it’s 3:07 p.m. We decided to surprise you guys,” said the group.

Sitting around on sofas, the seven band members took turns sharing their feelings about the ongoing promotions that they’d had to hold without any fans present.

“We did a prerecording for music shows without (the BTS Army), and I felt very wistful,” said RM.

J-Hope said, “I was kind of out of energy because there was no cheering from our fans. But we spent an exciting time during the promotion, thinking about you guys watching us on screen.”

Jimin thanked the fans for enabling BTS to win the top prize on the music program “Show! Music Score!”

“It didn’t really feel like we were promoting the song without (the BTS Army),” he said. “But thanks for the prize. I was touched.”

Looking back on the group’s US promotions, which involved several TV appearances, V said he felt great about the group’s performance of “On” at the Grand Central Terminal in New York. He also talked about the top-notch set of the “James Corden Show,” with its artificial waterfall and LED lighting, and the great work the band had done there.

“It is highly likely to blunder the very first performance for our new song, but I think we did a great job with ‘On.’ We’d practiced it so much that our underwear got all wet,” said V.

Suga said, “Since we practiced it so much, I already felt so familiar with the song when we started promotions in Korea.”

The band members went on to share their favorite scenes from the music video for “On.” Jimin chose the scene where J-Hope is rapping and Jungkook is lying in the background.

BTS wrapped up the broadcast, which lasted more than an hour, by talking about seven of their favorite things.

BTS dropped its new album, “Map of the Soul: 7,” Feb. 21.

Soloist Taeyeon dropped some behind-the-scenes footage from a photo shoot for her upcoming new single, “Happy.” In the clip, the singer poses in a cozy room, clad in a mint-green sweater with her hair in two cute buns. In another scene, she poses with a pink rose while sporting a princess-like pink sleeveless dress.

Set to drop Monday evening, “Happy” is an R&B pop song that captures the happiness of spending time with a loved one. After releasing the song, Taeyeon will also hold a Naver V Live broadcast for her fans, titled “Happy Taeyeon Day.”

UP10TION’s Sunyoul makes ‘dalgona’ coffee

image

Sunyoul of UP10TION took on the challenge of making “dalgona” coffee, named after traditional Korean sugar candy, using 60 packs of coffee mix.

“Today, I’m going to make a huge amount of dalgona coffee. Since I’m not the first one trying it, I’ll do it in another special way, by making it big,” he said.

Dalgona coffee is made by blending water, coffee and sugar -- and, most importantly, stirring them all together hundreds of times.

This new trend in coffee in Korea takes a lot of time and effort, and the broadcast took a whopping 2 1/2 hours. But Sunyoul finally
succeeded in making the mix dense and sticky like he wanted it.

Overwhelmed with victory, Sunyoul jokingly told viewers, “Don’t you ever try this at home. It is delicious, but not worth the time and effort.”

Monsta X recalls MDL Beast Festival

Monsta X took a walk down memory lane and ended up at last year’s MDL Beast Festival.

The clip posted on the group’s Naver V Live page captured the group having fun with famous US musician and DJ Steve Aoki at the event’s photo wall. Featuring more than 100 global DJs and stars from the Arab world, the largest music and cultural festival in the Middle East took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December.

Pulling a series of funny poses together, Monsta X and Steve Aoki chatted, calling each other “friend” and “brother.” The two also shared a stage for “Play it Cool,” pumping up the hyped audience.

Monsta X originally released “Play it Cool” in February last year and dropped the Aoki-produced English version the next month. The group dropped its first all-English album, “All About Luv,” last month.
