BTS uploaded a three-minute video of “Interlude: Shadow,” the first track from its upcoming album, “Map of the Soul: 7.” Within about 12 hours, it topped 13.5 million views on YouTube.

In the solo track, Suga performs on a pedestal surrounded by a huge crowd with cellphones in their hands. Trying to break away from the masses of outstretched hands, he comes out with lines such as “I am you and you are I/ You are I and I am you” and “People say ‘there’s splendor in that bright light’/ But my growing shadow swallows me and becomes a monster.”

Billboard hailed it as a “characteristic release” from the rapper-songwriter, focused on his “personal struggles and vulnerability.” NME called it “a fiery emo-rap” and said it may be “one of the most inventive things BTS have released so far.”

The track is drawing comparisons to RM’s solo “Intro: Persona,” from last year’s “Map of the Soul: Persona,” which can be traced back to “Intro: Skool Luv Affair” and then to “Intro: O!RUL8,2?”

Kpop Herald on how, when and where Big Bang will make a comeback

Kpop Herald reporters discussed the much-anticipated return of Big Bang in their weekly live cast.

They were pleased to share the news that sent fans around the globe into a frenzy: The K-pop sensation has signaled its return, confirming that it will participate in Coachella 2020 in April in California.

“This actually will be the first time they are performing as a four-piece act,” said Yim Hyun-su, noting that Seungri recently retired from the entertainment industry over a scandal. It will be the first group activity since the band’s single “Flower Road,” released in March 2018, added Hong Dam-young, and will also make Big Bang the first male K-pop band to join the festival lineup.

It might be a safer choice for the musicians to resume their careers in the US, Yim observed, considering the scandal that management company YG Entertainment faced last year. There has been speculation that the bandmates are planning to renew their contracts with the company, which would push YG’s stock prices back up, he added.

Seventeen’s Junghan, Dogyeom chat over breakfast

Junghan and Dogyeom of Seventeen went live while having breakfast in their New York hotel room. After just finishing his voice-only livestream, Junghan switched on the video so fans could see them both.

“Dogyeom is having galbitang and I’m having gamjatang,” he told viewers, warning them in advance that the sight of them eating the Korean dishes would not be pretty.

Sipping some soup, Dogyeom tried to tame his disheveled hair, confiding that it was not easy dealing with the time difference.

“I want to sleep but I can’t and it’s taking quite a toll,” he said to his bandmate, who agreed.

When Dogyeom asked what Junghan had talked about during the previous segment, Junghan said he’d told fans about the full schedule as a trainee and suggested Dogyeom share an episode with Seungkwan.

“We have fought so often I don’t know what to talk about ... as a trainee, everyone squabbled with each other ... we were just students,” said Dogyeom with a sheepish grin.

Stray Kids offer advice to fans

Lee Know, Changbin and Han of Stray Kids gathered in front of the camera and discussed fans’ worries and concerns as well as their own.

After arguing whether it was the first time they were doing V Live as a trio, and whether they were copying the main concept of Hyunjin’s solo livestream or vice versa, they decided to start.

Lee Know picked out a blue paper with a message on it that had been sent in by one of the bandmates, who remained anonymous. When he read it aloud, asking whether he should grill the meat until it was well done or medium, the other two were exasperated. When it was revealed that it was actually Lee Know who had written the message, they went berserk.

Keeping the mood light, a fan asked for tips on getting rid of puffiness the next day. All three agreed that taking a cold shower definitely works but considering the cold weather, Han suggested that fans dry their hair with cold air instead. Lee Know recommended running 10 kilometers at first but settled on pumpkin extract and coffee.
