Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, famously known as the Song-Song couple, are ending their marriage of nearly two years after the actor filed for divorce.

In a statement today, Park Jae-hyun, a lawyer representing Song Joong-ki said his law firm began divorce proceedings at Seoul Family Court on Wednesday.

On a separate note from the same statement, the actor said, “I’m sorry to break this unfortunate news to those who love and support me. I decided to start a court mediation procedure for my divorce from Song Hye-kyo. Rather than blaming each other, both of us hope to go through the divorce smoothly.”

He also said he will try to “overcome the hurt” by focusing on acting, without sharing details as to why the two broke up.

In the wake of the reports, Song Hye-kyo’s agency also issued a statement, in which “differences in personality” was cited as the reason behind the rift as the two “failed to find common ground.”

The two appeared together on the 2016 mega hit TV series “Descendants of the Sun” and went on to tie the knot in October 2017, becoming one of the biggest celebrity power couples in South Korea.

In June, Song Joong-ki was asked about how his wife was doing during a press conference for “Arthdal Chronicles,” in which he currently stars.

He said his married life gave him “peace of mind” which, he added, is something that married people would all appreciate. He refrained from going into details about his personal life.

Back in November, Song Hye-kyo also mentioned her husband during the press conference for the tvN series “Encounter” where she said her husband was supportive and told her he would watch the show.

Rumors over the rift between the two first began swirling in February, after several Chinese media reported that Song Hye-kyo was seen not wearing her wedding ring.
