V, who had already appeared on one television drama, was chosen as director for that reason. Nevertheless, he relied on the production staff for advice, asking them what to do and repeating their instructions. The bandmates made fun of him at first, but then looked at him with wide eyes when V used industry jargon such as OSS, which refers to an over-the-shoulder shot.

All seven members were busy with production jobs as well as acting, but that did not stop them from getting creative. In one scene, they asked Jungkook to carry Jin. “That must be the most expensive prop in the world,” said J-Hope, satisfied with the impromptu act.

While J-Hope and Jimin were shooting another scene, Suga went to get snacks. J-Hope was relieved when the staff confirmed that Suga had left with a camera in tow. “A camera is following? Then OK!” he said.

After helping themselves to a table full of snacks, the members began pushing V to speed up the filming. “More scenes are done in one take,” said Jungkook, looking worriedly at V.

“It’s OK. That’s how art works,” said Suga.

Stray Kids fails at ASMR

Three members of Stray Kids tried an ASMR session. It didn’t work very well, but they were still happy to talk to their fans on Naver’s V Live.

Seungmin, Felix and I.N each held a plush doll as they greeted their fans. The trio had planned an autonomous sensory meridian response session, but after several minutes trying to figure out whether the system was working, they gave up. “We prepared all these: bubble wrap, a glass jar, a mug and this (bag of) chips,” they said, making sad faces.

“Oh, this is yummy,” said Felix as he sampled a chip to share the munching sound with his fans. Seungmin told fans Felix had rehearsed the segment over and over, trying to cheer him up.

The bandmates complimented Felix on how he looked in a beret -- he’d first worn it to an award ceremony the previous day. “It was your first time performing ‘Miroh’ with one, right?” asked Seungmin.

“Yes. While I was doing these (dance moves) it was as if something was amiss because I couldn’t feel my hair,” answered Felix, laughing.

“I hope I am not keeping you from going to bed since it is late in Korea,” he said as he started livestreaming. “The rest of the band is preparing for the performance and I am here alone,” said the idol, telling fans that he’d decided to have dinner during a short break.

“One of my favorites, steak.”

When a waiter brought something to the table and asked if he was a K-pop star, he shook his head with a smile. “Not a star. Just a K-pop singer,” said the global sensation humbly.

“I understood that, everyone,” he told his fans, some of whom might not be familiar with English. “When you did understand but cannot reply with confidence, just smile like I did,” said Hyungwon.

After communicating with his fans for almost an hour, the performer said, “Now that I have talked to you I will be able to do well on the stage.”

“First of all, we are so excited. When we wake up we are like, ‘Oh, we have a schedule!’” said leader Ethan.

“It’s been less than a month so I am thrilled and nervous at the same time for every stage,” said Sihyun.

“This is the first step for us and we will try to reciprocate your love,” vowed Min.

“One of the hardest parts for me (before our debut) was that every day was the same. Practice, practice, practice,” confided Kyeongheon.

“I joined the band later, when all the songs and choreography were set. So I had to learn all of them in a month,” said Sihyeon, who has participated in survival audition programs “Produce 101” and “Under Nineteen.”

The group’s name means “We are in our area. We are here,” explained Ethan.

The lead track from the band’s eponymous EP, “Let’s Get Loud,” demonstrates the different personalities of each member and proclaims that when their voices reach their fans they can do anything, said Juan.
