After sweeping local charts with moombahton-inspired “Hann,” rising K-pop rookie act (G)-IDLE has come out with another intense Latin-infused single: “Senorita,” the lead track on its new EP, “I Made.”

“Before making ‘I Made,’ I’d always dreamed of producing an album by myself. When listening to an album, I not only focus on its lead track, but also other-side tracks,” Soyeon, the group’s leader, composer and producer, who crafted “Senorita,” said during (G)-IDLE’s showcase for the new album in Seoul on Tuesday.

“So when producing ‘I Made,’ I tried to pay attention to every track. And I feel so proud of it,” she added.

Continuing the legacy of “Latata” and “Hann,” “Senorita” is a Latin-tinged dance-pop tune built on sleek strings, brassy beats and jazzy electro-beats that call to mind images of tango dancers.

The band members explained that the album’s title, “I Made,” refers to the artists’ contributions to each track -- Soyeon crafted four songs, including the lead track, and Minnie took the lead on the final track, “Blow Your Mind.”

Recognized as one of the most promising K-pop rookie acts, the six-piece group -- with Soyeon at the center as its main producer -- seemed to take great pride in its self-directed work.

Of the band’s penchant for Latin sounds, Soyeon said, “Listening to songs on the Billboard charts, I get influenced by Latin sounds a lot.”

Asked about the “girl-crush” concept, she added, “While there are various sides of me, when writing for the group, I think I prefer a strong and confident image.”

She went on to praise her bandmates for their versatile vocal capabilities, saying she feels accomplished as a producer when the members digest all kinds of musical concepts and create harmony with their distinct vocal styles.

On having just produced a song for the first time, Minnie talked about the inspiration she’d received from Soyeon.

“Although Soyeon is younger than me, her musical experiences are incomparable with mine. She helped me a lot when writing ‘Blow Your Mind,’” she said.

Asked about the group’s future goals, Yuqui said, “We hope to top the local charts with a song made by Soyeon.”

When (G)I-DLE made its official debut in May with the EP “I Am,” it hit No. 7 on Billboard’s world albums chart, with lead track “Latata” topping the iTunes K-pop charts in 11 countries.

Then in August the multinational group’s single “Hann” topped domestic music charts and debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart, making (G)I-DLE one of the few girl groups to make a mark on the Billboard charts with both its debut single and its debut album.
