Soldiers picked singer IU as their most preferred counselor among celebrities to talk over army life.

Other celebrities mentioned after IU were comedian Yoo Jae-suk and singer Irene of Red Velvet.

The Defense Media Agency’s online news site, designed to deliver information on the lives of conscripted soldiers of Korea, said it surveyed 430 soldiers for three weeks between October and November, to ask them “which celebrity struck them as most likely to listen to every small concern about life in the barracks.”

The results announced Sunday revealed that singer-actress IU came top, with 14.4 percent of the respondents sending her a nod.

A soldier was quoted by the DMA that “Most soldiers would have experience of being comforted by IU’s soothing songs.”

He then went on to say, “IU is the No. 1 celebrity that is sociable and easygoing,” hinting that she comes across as a person that a soldier could really become friends with.

Other than IU, comedian and TV personality Yoo Jae-suk came in second with 11.1 percent of the vote, with girl group Red Velvet’s Irene coming in third with 9.3 percent support.

Actress Park Bo-young was fourth (7.4 percent), followed by singer Psy (6.3 percent) and actor Lee Seung-gi (5.8 percent).
