His first solo work, “Voice,” is a seven-track EP fronted by the jazzy rhythm and blues track “Blue.”

The eldest member of SHINee has worked on the soundtracks of television shows, including “In Your Eyes” from the 2012 series “For You in Full Blossom” starring fellow bandmate Choi Min-ho, and “Moonlight” from “Miss Korea” (2013). However, he has yet to release an entire album under his name until now.

Representing the singer, S.M. Entertainment said Thursday that the album would be Onew’s last work before he begins his mandatory military service. It added that the 28-year-old worked on the album as a gift to fans.

This makes Onew SHINee’s third member to go solo, following Taemin’s 2014 EP “Ace” and Key’s “Forever Yours” in November.

SHINee debuted as a quintet under S.M. Entertainment in May 2008 with EP “Replay.”

On Dec. 18, 2017, the group’s lead vocalist Jonghyun was found unconscious from cardiac arrest at a studio apartment in Gangnam, a southeastern district of Seoul. He was later confirmed dead at the nearby Konkuk University Medical Center.

SHINee resumed its activities as a quartet with the 10-year anniversary trilogy “The Story of Light,” released in succession from May to June.
