YG Entertainment is readying another survival program through which it will form a brand new boy band.

The agency, home to Big Bang, Winner and iKON, said Monday that it will launch a new survival program titled “YG’s treasure box” (working title) in November, sharing details of its upcoming boy band project.

According to YG, the program will feature all of its 29 male trainees, whose age ranges between 14 and 19. Through competition and evaluation by viewers, the agency plans to pick approximately five final members.

“Actually, fans used to call YG a ‘treasure box’ for the lack of our artists’ promotions as a negative term, and I’ve always felt so sorry for fans waiting for the artists’ return. Through our new program, we plan to reveal everything about our trainees, and while we plan to make it a five-piece group, the number can be changed according to the circumstances,” YG head Yang Hyun-suk said in a written statement.

The final winners, who will debut as a boy group, follow the footsteps of their predecessors Big Bang, Winner and iKON, the survival show-created boy groups.

“Since we have more trainees competing in the show compared to when Big Bang, Winner and iKON did, it seems to be a very competitive match,” he said.

Having featured in several audition programs like “Superstar K” in 2009 to “Mix Nine,” which ended in January, Yang added that he doesn’t plan to feature in other audition programs any more.

“For the past six years, I’ve met thousands of K-pop wannabes through those audition programs, and they have been unforgettable memories. But I plan to go back to my original spot and focus only on YG from now on,” he added.

“YG’s Treasure Box” will air its first episode on Nov. 16 through V Live Channel, YouTube and TV.
