CNBLUE’s Jung Yong-hwa has been cleared of wrongdoing after accusations that he received preferential treatment in gaining admission to a doctoral program at Seoul’s Kyung Hee University.

Representing the singer, FNC Entertainment released an official statement on Tuesday and confirmed that Jung had been cleared of the charges by prosecutors after an investigation.

“Jung faithfully underwent judicial probes at the beginning of this year and in July, the prosecutors decided not to indict him after determining that he was not guilty of obstruction of business in regards to his school admissions,” the agency said.

“Through the judgment of the law, Jung was cleared of all suspicions and misunderstanding that surrounded his doctoral program admission process and (it was found) that he did not have any intention of receiving preferential admission.”

In January, the CNBLUE frontman was accused of receiving preferential treatment in the admission process for a doctoral program at Seoul’s Kyung Hee University in 2016, without submitting to an interview. Following the ensuing controversy, Jung withdrew from a TV show and made a public apology.

Having enlisted in the military in March, Jung is currently serving in the 702nd Special Assault Regiment and is scheduled to be discharged Dec. 4, 2019.
