AOA’s Chanmi just opened her YouTube Channel, but it seems her new enterprise has started off on the wrong foot.

On Friday, the AOA singer announced the launch of her YouTube called “likeChanmi” by uploading an introduction video on her Instagram account.

In the video, Chanmi explained that she will show subscribers the daily life and beauty tips of a girl group member through her channel. What caught public’s attention, however, was her way of promotion, for which she wrote, “More videos to come if I amass 10,000 subscribers! Please help me, since I’m very close to reaching the figure. I beg you a lot of promotions and sharing.”

The post has been bombarded with criticisms and complaints ever since, with netizens bringing her attitude into question and claiming that she’s just trying to take advantage of her celebrity status.

Some of the comments read, “You should ask for more subscribers ‘after’ uploading more good videos. There’s only one video, and how can you ask for it?” “We are not just going to follow your channel if there’s nothing to watch” and “There are many other celebrities who run YouTube, and I’ve never seen a case like this before. It seems like all you care about is the number of subscribers.”

Some even compared Chanmi to other star-turned-YouTubers like Apink’s Bomi, who has drawn praise from YouTube users for the high-quality content on her channel and her sincere attitude toward making the videos.

One Instagram user wrote, “Chanmi is really unconscientious compared to Bomi who’s successfully made a lot of subscribers with her good contents and passion.”

A lot of Korean celebrities have been rushing to start YouTube channels lately. Bomi runs her channel Bom Bom Bom, while Lee Soo-hyun of K-pop duo AKMU and Luna of f(x) run channels Mochipeach and Luna’s Alphabet, respectively.
