EXO Lay to enter US music market

Chinese EXO bandmate Lay, or Yixing Zhang, will release his own album, “Namanana,” in the US on Oct. 19, S.M. Entertainment said Friday.

Lay’s US album contains 11 Chinese songs as well as their versions remade in English, meaning a total of 22 songs will release in the US. The singer participated in the composition and arrangement of each, according to S.M.

Singer-songwriter Bazzi and composition team Rice n’ Peas, as well as 153 Joombas Music Group, collaborated with Lay to up the production level of “Namanana.”

S.M. said it hopes Lay’s album will serve as a trigger for the growth of Mandopop, or Mandarin Popular Music, on a global scale.

Lay debuted in 2012 as a part of hit K-pop group EXO. With his first regular EP in China titled “Lose Control,” He nabbed album of the year and the best male singer in 2016 in the fifth Chinese Yinyue V Chart Awards.

Lay released his second regular EP “Lay 02 Sheep” in 2017 and was once again awarded album of the year in the Tencent Video Star Awards.
