The final episode of “My ID is Gangnam Beauty” broke the show’s own ratings record Saturday night, also making it one of the most memorable TV series of the summer.

The 16-episode JTBC series came to an end with its viewership reaching 5.8 percent nationwide and 6.2 percent in Seoul and surrounding areas.

Viewers saw Kang Mi-rae, a girl with low self-esteem and insecurity about her looks, and Do Kyung-seok, a lonely boy whose parents got divorced when he was very young, become best friends and eventually fall in love.

Hyun Soo-a, Mi-rae’s onetime rival, also matured over time when Mi-rae stood by her side through some tough times.

The show garnered critical praise for asking important questions about the emphasis that society places on appearances and about the true meaning of happiness and beauty.
