BTS fan club Army erupted on Twitter after music video director Joseph Kahn accused the celebrated K-pop group of having had plastic surgery and labeled them “crazy rich Asians.“

The high-profile American music video director tweeted last week, “They all have plastic surgery. They are all wearing lipstick. This is what Crazy Rich Asians actually look like,” alongside a picture of BTS.

The tweet didn’t go well with many Army members, stirring up a storm of criticism from the groups’ fans on Twitter.

“His attitude needs a surgery,” one user wrote, while asking others to stream the group’s new song “Epiphany.”

Khan’s tweet about plastic surgery also prompted fans to tweet a slew of old photos of each member of the group to the director, documenting their change in appearance from childhood to adulthood as evidence that none of them had had any work done.

Another user found Khan’s tweet problematic for his subtle jab at men wearing makeup and said there’s something wrong with “Joseph Khan and all the other people who can’t stand to see men breaking gender norms.”

The user also wrote, “Toxic masculinity? BTS doesn’t even know of it,” next to new teaser images of the group’s new album where the bandmates wear heavy makeup with dyed hair.

In a separate tweet on Friday, Kahn took another swipe at the group.

“Asian Americans: STOP FEMINIZING OUR MEN. ASIANS ARE MACHO TOO. Asians: YOU NO WEAR LIPSTICK? WHY?” He wrote.

The tweet saw the director accused of having a “fragile” and “toxic” sense of masculinity, with many of Army using the rare chance ironically to promote the group’s new album with meme images and video links.

Despite having been on the receiving end of mounting criticism, the outspoken director has showed no sign of backing down, saying everyone will get roasted by him at some point and he would never apologize in another tweet.

Khan, who calls himself the “king of trolling,” also said his tweet at BTS was a “joke” and he wishes his Trump jokes had as much power.
