Seungri of Big Bang has earned praise from fans and music critics for his new solo album “The Great Seungri.”

In an online article on Friday, Billboard said the singer’s first solo album “1, 2, 3” has a “clap-happy beat and perky guitar riffs,” which drive the tune, while the song is full of Seungri’s characteristic charisma.

The song was initially written for Black Pink, another popular act from YG Entertainment, Seungri said during a livestream with fans on Naver’s V Live.

Online media outlet Viewers said the new album proves Seungri has grown from a “strong baby” to a man, a reference to his solo track in 2009.

Seungri took part in the making of eight out of the nine tracks in the new album, taking on a broader role as an artist.

The album has also been a commercial success, topping the iTunes album charts in over 10 countries including Philippines, Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia.

Seungri often appears on variety shows as not just an artist but also a TV personality, in contrast to another Big Bang member G-Dragon, who keeps a relatively low profile on entertainment programs.

The singer previously said that he emphasized his cheerful energy in the new album to differentiate himself from other artists.
