Seungri of Big Bang explained why he decided to strike out on his own and release a full-length album during a press conference for his album “The Great Seungri” in Seoul on Friday.

“To tell the truth, promoting in a group is much better for me. I always pursued group activities, but the reality is that Big Bang is on a hiatus. And I decided to fill in that void for fans by promoting as a solo artist,” he said.

“Actually, G-Dragon had wished that I would stay active as a solo artist so that fans would not feel lonely, telling me to do my best as a member of Big Bang.”

Teaming up with YG Entertainment’s famous producer team that includes Teddy, Seungri said he focused on setting himself apart from other artists by emphasizing his cheerful energy.

The album’s lead track “1,2,3!” is an upbeat rock-pop dance number that suits the jocular artist’s personality. Its accompanying music video features Seungri cheerfully dancing with others, reminiscent of the musical movie “Grease” and “Foot Loose.” Another track “Where R U From” is an upbeat electronic dance music party song featuring Song Min-ho of Winner.

“It was my first time working with Teddy, and he told me from the beginning that he wanted to make music only I was capable of. All five members of Big Bang have their own charm, but mine is my energy. I wanted to veer away from my previous ‘Strong Baby’ image and portray myself as a confident and cheerful man,” he said.

“The Great Seungri” contains nine tracks, eight of which Seungri participated in writing. It also includes the tracks “Love is You” “Mollado” “Sweet Lie” “Be Friend” “Hotline” “Alone” “Good Luck to You.” It marks the artist’s first solo full-length album following his previous singles and EPs, such as “Strong Baby.”
