Red Velvet grants fans’ requests at KCON 2018 New York

Three members of Red Velvet each took on three challenges for fans at KCON 2018 New York.

Irene was challenged to say “I love you” to ReVeluv, as her fans are called, in five different languages. The Red Velvet leader started off with the language she feels most comfortable with, her mother tongue Korean, followed by the English phrase for the largely English-speaking crowd in New York, Japanese (“aishiteruyo”), Chinese (“wo ai ni”) and French (je t’aime).

Seulgi, who is often considered the group’s best dancer, was asked to dance the choreography to the song by any other artist performing at the concert. The 24-year-old opted for Super Junior’s 2009 hit single “Sorry, Sorry,” which served as a delightful throwback for the audience.

Last but not least, fans request for Wendy was to sing a song by an American diva. The Red Velvet vocalist from Canada struggled for a second deciding on a song, saying, “There’s a lot.” “Since we’re in New York, I think I should go with this song,” Wendy said, singing the iconic line from Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind,” the 2017 classic that ruled the charts worldwide. The audience went wild as Wendy bellowed “New York, New York,” and was sorry it had to be cut short.

With the release of “One & Six” last Monday, the group’s seventh mini album and second release of 2018, Apink has been nonstop with its updates. Following three versions of choreography clips, serial appearances on talk shows and showcase stages, the veteran K-pop girl group unveiled some behind-the-scenes footage from its music video shoot Saturday.

“One & Six” marks a drastic departure from the group’s previous image as the “sweet girl next door.” Singing of a failed relationship, the six members are dressed in darker palettes and smiles are replaced by sultry stares.

“I’m not being rude,” assured Eunji, who was posing askew in her chair, explaining, “I’m just hurt from love.” Bomi, who is known for being restlessly energetic, confessed she found it hard to be “sad” inside a dressing room where she was set to shoot the scene. “Maybe I’m looking at the clothes I bought to look nice for my boyfriend. That’s why I’m mad,” she said, trying to get into character.



AOA at FINA World Championships opening ceremony

The city of Gwangju, located in the southwestern province of the Korean peninsula, is hosting the 18th FINA World Championships and AOA was one of the artists to shine the opening ceremony which took place Saturday.

Chanmi briefly streamed live post-performance on Naver’s V app for fans who couldn’t make it to the event.

When one fan commented that her voice sounded hoarse, Chanmi told the fan not to worry, explaining that her voice was always like this.
