Maybe it was time for Apink to make some dramatic changes, as it had been sticking to its signature innocent style since 2011.

In its new EP “One & Six,” the group’s first album in a year, the six bandmates shed their former identity, transforming into powerful and charismatic women.

“This EP holds our hope to show our six different characteristics,” said Jung Eun-ji during a showcase for the EP in Seoul on Monday.

The record is led by the lead track “Not Even One,” an energetic tropical house tune created by Black Eyed Pilseung, the hit producer duo also responsible for Apink’s “Only One.” Most of the act’s previous hits have centered on a saccharine and lighthearted vibe, but the new track expresses disenchantment with love in the aftermath of a failed romance.

The act’s outfits for the showcase also reflected the dramatic change in its music style, as the members opted for all-black from head to toe.

“In the past, we’ve been innocent and pure. But we wanted to look enchanting for the new song, so I think it is natural for our dance moves, outfits and facial expressions to be in line with the new concept,” Kim Nam-joo said.

Park expressed worry over whether fans would like the new image, saying, “I had concerns, as we haven’t shown anything this strong before.”

“I know what our fans like about us. But we had to do this to expand our musical spectrum.”

The six-track EP also features “Alright,” “Don’t Be Silly,” “Star And..,” “You Than Words” and “I Like That Kiss.”
