Actress Kim Go-eun said one of the reasons she accepted the role in “Sunset in My Hometown” was because she needed some “happiness.”

“The production was what I needed at this moment in time, and I just wanted to enjoy the shooting itself,” said Kim during an interview for a recent photo shoot with a local magazine. The photos showed Kim in a natural look, barely wearing any makeup or having much done to her hair.

Curiosity over director Lee Joon-ik also motivated her decision to feature in the flick.

“Other actors and staff who have worked with Lee told me that they were really happy with him. I’d thought, ‘It won’t be like that all the time, as it’s work after all. But now I know what they meant. I was truly happy while filming the movie,” she said.

She also shared that she had to gain almost eight kilograms to play a role of Seon-mi, a high school student who has never left her little hometown.

“As Seon-mi was a much more ordinary character than the ones from my past, I tried to act naturally. I thought gaining some weight might help my intention visually,” she added.
