The Korean version of popular Broadway musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is set to premiere in Taiwan in July, according to its production company on Wednesday.

Show Note said the musical, featuring Korean actors including Oh Man-seok, will be shown at the National Taichung Theater from July 20-22.

Since the Korean adaptation had its premiere in 2005, the musical has been a steady favorite among musical fans and has became a magnet for talented actors like Jo Seung-woo, Yoon Do-hyun and Park Gun-hyung.

"It is rare for a licensed piece to be shown overseas," the company said in a statement. "It will demonstrate the Korean version's high-quality as well as the excellence of Korean musicals in general."

The 1998 musical centers around an East German genderqueer rock singer Hedwig and his rock and roll band. In 2001, the story was made into a musical film in the U.S.

The company said discussions are under way to bring the show to the capital city of Taipei mid-August after the July performances in the western city of Taichung. (Yonhap)
