'The Miracle We Met' still strong, ranks No. 2 on weekly TV chart

KBS 2TV's "The Miracle We Met" maintained its strong position on the weekly TV chart by taking the No. 2 spot, data showed Tuesday.

The miraculous story about an extremely confused man whose life has been upended overnight garnered a score of 241.8 on the weekly Content Power Index (CPI) for April 9-15.

It relinquished the top spot to "My Mister," tvN's lugubrious series featuring singer-songwriter IU and Lee Sun-kyun. The drama centers on a young, gloomy girl struggling to support her poverty-stricken family and a middle-aged man at her workplace. It recorded 245.6.

Written by popular scriptwriter Paik Mi-kyung of "Strong Girl Bong-soon" and "The Lady in Dignity," "The Miracle We Met" tells a story about the man who has to live in the body of a complete stranger with the same name, age and birthday but a completely different life.

It has been receiving positive reviews for the strong performances by its three main actors -- Kim Myung-min, Kim Hyun-joo and Ra Mi-ran -- as well as its cohesive and original storyline. The drama outperformed all other programs featured in the same time slot, 10-11 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, in viewership ratings.

During a press conference last month, the writer said she was well aware of the concerns that the subject might be too banal in Korean dramas. But she said she would tell her story in a different way.

"Honestly, I've seen more than 10 dramas with this subject. I know it is all too familiar and boring. But as you might all be aware, I am not the kind of writer who repeats the same old story," she said at that time.

Actor Kim, who plays lead character Song Hyun-chul, exceeds public expectations -- as always -- in performing the confused man who is forced to live someone else's life and makes a dramatic change in character.

For boy band EXO fans, Kai's appearance -- albeit short -- is enough to tune in and watch the show. As a stunning scene-stealer, the singer plays Ato the Messenger, who makes a fateful mistake that turns Song Hyun-chul's life upside down.

The index, created by CJ E&M and Nielsen Korea, measures the level of popularity, trending on social media sites and influence on consumer behavior of entertainment TV programs aired on three major terrestrial networks -- MBC, SBS and KBS -- and seven cable channels owned by CJ E&M, including tvN, Mnet and OCN, during prime time. JTBC, another cable network that airs some highly popular entertainment shows and dramas, was not included in the survey. (Yonhap)
