"Avengers: Infinity War" is gearing up for one of the strongest-ever openings at the South Korean box office.

With nine days to go before the movie's opening, the computerized tally from the Korean Film Council reported on Monday that "Infinity War" has already sold more than 210,025 presale tickets.

That accounted for 83.1 percent of all tickets reserved as of 11 a.m., showing it is on course to presell more tickets than any other superhero title in the country, supplanting fellow Marvel blockbuster "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

After taking up more than 70 percent of all presold tickets two weeks before its opening on April 23, 2015, "Age of Ultron" hit 94.6 percent in the reservation rate one day before its release. It presold more than 900,000 tickets and was seen by more than 10 million moviegoers.

The third movie in the "Avengers" series brings together 22 heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) to stop villain Thanos in his quest to destroy half of the world.

Four other main cast members of the film -- Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Holland and Pom Klementieff -- visited Seoul on Thursday for promotional events for the film. They attended a press conference and a red carpet event where about 7,500 local movie fans gathered to see them.

"With no big releases scheduled till early next month, chances are high that 'Avengers: Infinity War" will remain strong at the local box office till the end of the long holiday weekend from May 5-7," a movie industry official said, requesting not to be named. (Yonhap)
