KARD, Junoflo and other mainstream and indie artists representing today's K-pop scene will perform this week at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in the United States, its organizer said Wednesday.

SXSW's "Korea Spotlight," scheduled for Friday at the Belmont in Austin, Texas, will feature seven rising K-pop acts, including KARD, Junoflo, Lee Hi, Crush, DPR Live and CIFIKA, according to the South Korean culture ministry and the state-run Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA).

Launched in 1987, SXSW is an annual collective showcase of film, music and interactive media held in March in Austin. This year's festival runs March 8-18.

KOCCA has hosted the event, known as "K-pop Night Out," until last year, since 2012. Some 2,500 attended last year's showcase, which featured Red Velvet, Tiger JK and Hyolyn.

The agency also plans to promote Korean indie acts 3rd Line Butterfly, Billie Cater, ADOY and Say Sue Me via a similar showcase at Britain's The Great Escape Festival in May. (Yonhap)
