South Korean actor Park Hae-jin will plant trees in China, along with his fans, in a campaign to reduce fine dust, his agency said Wednesday.

"Park will leave for China in April to fulfill his pledge to plant trees, which he made to his fans during an event for the JTBC series, 'Man x Man,' last year," Mountain Movement said.

The tree planting campaign began last year when Park's Chinese fans donated 520 trees to help combat desertification in western China. Park, in response, added 6,000 trees to the donation.

The star of "Cheese in the Trap" and "My Love from the Star" pledged during a press conference for the drama to plant part of the trees they donated together if the cable TV program achieves a viewership of 10 percent.

"Upon hearing the news that my fans will launch a tree planting campaign, I willingly decided to take part in it," Park said through his agency. "I hope this kind of campaign, if followed by similar moves, would help tackle the environmental problem at a time when air pollution emerged as a serious issue."

Park rose to fame in China for his role in the 2011 Chinese drama "Qian Duo Duo Get Married," which became a nationwide sensation. He later starred in three more dramas, including "Far Away Love," which earned him a top acting award in the country. (Yonhap)
