On Monday’s episode of “Talk Mon” on Olive TV, Sunmi opened up about why she wanted to pursue a career in music.

She started the story, saying “(It was) because of my dad.” According to her, her father was seriously ill. She was in fourth grade, having to look after her two little brothers.

“I was in charge of the house and my dad could not even move. I wondered how I should solve this situation,” Sunmi said.
While people around her recommended that she becomes a teacher, the singer thought that the family wouldn’t be able to survive if she had to study for at least 10 more years.

For quick success, she chose to be a star and was accepted as a trainee at JYP Entertainment at 14, soon debuting as a member of Wonder Girls.

“Dad texted me one day saying that he will go first. I didn’t answer it but he passed away the next day,” she said. “The fact that I didn’t text him back has been lasting long in my memory.”

She explained that her father wasn’t able to see her debut.
