Kim Woo-bin has been exempted from mandatory military service due to cancer.

According to Kim’s agency Sidus HQ on Friday, Kim was asked to enlist in the Army not long after he finished receiving cancer treatment.

Kim underwent another round of physical fitness evaluation, which determined him to be grade 6 -- unfit for enlistment.

Korean soldiers on active and reservist duty are graded between 1 and 4. Those graded 5 are asked to provide wartime labor service. Grade 6 are those who cannot take on any military duties due to an illness or mental and physical disability. Those who require re-evaluation after the end of medical treatment are temporarily classified as grade 7.

Kim was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in May 2017.

Sidus HQ said, “Kim has finished receiving treatment, and he is regularly going for follow-up examinations for his recovery. Please give your support so that Kim will be able to regain his health.”
