BTS becomes Japan’s sole ‘double platinum’ foreign artist
K-pop group BTS was the only foreign artist to release a double platinum album in the Japanese market in 2017.
The Recording Industry Association of Japan announced Monday that the group’s eighth single, “MIC Drop/DNA/Crystal Snow,” topped 500,000 sales.
The RIAJ announces certifications once a month based on accumulated sales. Albums are certified gold if they reach 100,000 sales, platinum if they hit 250,000, double platinum if they sell 500,000 copies, triple platinum for 750,000, and “million discs” if sales reach seven figures.
