Seungri of K-pop band Big Bang burst into emotional tears because of a birthday surprise from the CEO of his agency Yang Hyun-suk.

In the photo posted on his Instagram late Tuesday, which was his birthday, Seungri is seen crying in front of a candle-lit cake, while Yang is filming him with an amused look on his face.

Seungri said via the Instagram post that Yang called him in for a casual dinner, and surprised him with the birthday cake. In the photo, the pop star does look surprised and moved, as “it was the first time Yang held a birthday party for me in 12 years,” Seungri said.

Yang is known for his harsh discipline style towards singer-trainees at his agency. In a press conference October, Seungri made a playful comment on the rocky relationship between him and his mentor Yang. “Yang would get angry and throw his shoes at me, so many times during the last 10 years. I even thought I could collect all those shoes and open a shop.”

Other than the surprise party from Yang, Seungri celebrated his birthday with other meaningful events. On Tuesday, he volunteered to deliver coal briquettes to a low-income neighborhood, and donated 100 million won ($92,000) to a child welfare charity.
