In an era when K-pop is as much about looks as it is about music, Day6 is commonly referred to as “a group you can trust and just listen to.”

“It‘s an honor really. We’ve worked hard for that title, and I think we need to keep working to keep it,” said Sungjin in an interview held Thursday in Seoul.

The music of the boy band, which debuted with “The Day” in 2015 under JYP Entertainment, is mostly based in what can be categorized as pop rock. It is particularly recognized for its songwriting skills, creating 25 songs just last year.

The band on Wednesday released “Moonrise,” its second full-length studio album. It has fingerprints of the members all over it, with all four participating in the song-writing process. The quartet took part in writing the lead track “I Like You.”

“I think it‘s a track that best shows Day6’s color. As we keep growing, this song is the culmination of our growth,” said Sungjin.

Young K, who provided the lyrics for the song, said that he “had the feeling” when he first heard the song.

“I thought to myself, ‘this song will be the lead track with the right lyrics’,” he said. I hesitated a lot because of the phrase ‘I like you,’ as I wondered if it was enough. But the members said it was ok, and it boosted my confidence.

Young K said writing 12 of 18 tracks in the record really put him to the test, which he overcame with timely advice from his bandmates.

The album will mark the last of “Every Day6” project, which saw the band release two songs every month in 2017.

“We were really nervous in preparing for the project because it was so big, but it was just as huge an opportunity,” said Jae. “We are satisfied with our music. The quality is satisfactory, and in some ways was even better than we imagined.”

Asked if they could write another 25 songs next year, they expressed confidence.

“We can. I don‘t know if it will be 25, but we have plenty of plans for next year,” said Sungjin.

Despite its relatively short career so far, Day6 has ample experience both on stage and in the recording booth. The members said that performing in front of the crowd is what keeps them going.

“At first, I just buried my head into the drum and played. But the fans taught me how to enjoy the stage. I thank ‘My Day ’ (the name of Day6’s fan club) for teaching me that,“ said Dowoon.
