K-pop pioneer JYP unveiled a secret that he has kept for himself since his early debut days via tvN’s variety show “Life Bar” on Friday.

“Life Bar,” a talk show involving alcohol drinks and fun anecdotes, allows celebrities to talk freely about their life lessons, while enjoying drinks of the guest’s choice. Friday‘s episode featured JYP and actress Park So-hyun.

During the broadcast, JYP talked about the difficulties he endured during his early debut days due to his “sensational appearance.” The producer and founder of JYP Entertainment told viewers that he had been cut from auditions due to his unique exterior.

JYP also surprised guest hosts following his admittance to having had participated in S.M. Entertainment’s auditions and had failed miserably because Lee Soo-man expressed “utter disappointment” in JYP‘s self-produced music at the time.

After not getting called back to S.M.’s final auditions, it is said that Lee had asked JYP to sell the self-produced song “Don’t Leave Me.” JYP told the audience he refused on the spot and described that audition to be his “saddest audition ever.”
