KBS 2TV's new audition reality show shot to the top of the local weekly TV ratings, data showed Tuesday.

"The Unit: Idol Rebooting Project" has ranked as the most popular program on the Content Power Index for Oct. 23-29 with a score of 267.6.

The program targets disheartened young artists who made unsuccessful debuts in the K-pop scene but want to try their luck and dream again through the audition program.

The network aims to emulate the runaway success that cable music channel Mnet garnered with "Produce 101 Season 2," with the format twist of setting failed idols back on track again.

Although it rose to the top as soon as it entered the charts, many voiced disappointment with the lack of tension and drama compared with "Produce 101," as well as with what seemed to be a lack of consistency in judging contestants.

The index, created by CJ E&M and Nielsen Korea, measures the level of popularity and influence on consumer behavior of all entertainment TV programs aired on major territorial networks and cable channels during prime time.

The publication of the index was resumed Tuesday after a two-month suspension due to strikes at two major broadcasters, KBS and MBC, as new TV programs are expected to go on air soon, according to CJ E&M and Nielsen Korea.

Thousands of labor unionists at both networks have started a sit-in since Sept. 4, calling for their management to step down for allegedly meddling in news coverage and engaging in unfair labor practices. (Yonhap)
