The new solo record of Taeyang, a member of K-pop boy band BIGBANG, climbed to No. 1 on more than 20 Apple iTunes album charts around the world, according to his agency Thursday.

"White Night," Taeyang's third solo album released on Wednesday, clinched the top spots on iTunes album charts in 23 countries, including France, Mexico, Cambodia, Columbia, Finland and Indonesia, YG Entertainment said.

Chile, Taiwan, Denmark, Malaysia, Thailand and Turkey were also among the countries where Taeyang topped their respective charts. The album reached No. 2 on the U.S. album chart.

"White Night" is Taeyang's first solo work in three years and, just like his other projects, the title is related to the sun. Taeyang, whose name means "sun" in Korean, previously released a mini solo album called "Hot" in 2008 followed by his first full-length solo album "Solar" in 2010 and second album "Rise" in 2014.

Taeyang plans to kick off an international tour to promote the album at Jamsil Gymnasium in Seoul next weekend. (Yonhap)
