Celebs commemorate National Liberation Day

Korean celebrities have taken to social media to post about National Liberation Day.

The day is celebrated on Aug. 15 to commemorate the liberation of the Korean Peninsula from Japanese occupation in 1945 and the establishment of an independent Korean government in 1948.

Many Korean superstars, from K-pop idols to actors, posted the national flag and historical images on social media to celebrate the day and thank patriotic martyrs.

Actress Kim So-hyun posted the national flag with the caption, “Aug. 15, The Liberation Day, I will not forget this day when we restored the light.” In Korea, Liberation Day is called as Gwangbokjeol. “Gwangbok” means “restoration of light."

Yesung of Super Junior took to Instagram to post historical photo from the day of liberation with the caption, “The day we restored the bright future of the nation. The 72nd National Liberation Day.”

Joon Park of boy band g.o.d wrote, “Yo~ for any Country/Nation, Freedom and Independence should not only be a choice but definitely a Right... Happy Independence Day Korea! BBBAAAMMM!!!”

Former Sistar member Soyou said “I will not forget there are a lot of hidden heroes,” while actor Kwak Si-yang said “We can be here now thanks to martyrs who were willing to die for the liberation of the nation.”
