Memory loss, extreme plastic surgery, revenge, affairs, disguises and kimchi slaps -- a rich variety of incomprehensible plot developments have occurred in K-dramas over the years. Here are five iconic dramas that both befuddled and magnetically drew in viewers.

1. Princess Aurora
May 2013 - December 2013

This show was so maddening that when its writer, the infamous Im Sung-han, announced she would add 70 episodes to its 150-episode run, netizens signed a petition calling for the drama’s end and the writer’s removal. The petition received some 6,000 signatures within five days.

The following video demonstrates how the show killed off five characters for no reason:

2. Temptation of the Wife
November 2008 - May 2009

It’s impossible to talk about crazy K-dramas without mentioning this legendary show. The heroine pretended to die and reappeared with a mole under her eye, apparently unrecognizable to her family, to take revenge on her husband and his new lover.

3. What’s For Dinner?
May 2009 - October 2009

This MBC show was so full of random plot twists, affairs, car accidents and incomprehensible characters that drama critics had a field day attacking it. The main character is a husband who only sees his wife as a server of food.

The bizarreness of the drama led to this parody by variety program “Infinite Challenge”:

4. New Tales of Gisaeng
January 2011 - July 2011

This drama featured modern-day gisaeng, or female entertainers. Its high point was when green laser suddenly began shooting out of a male character’s eyes. The show received a warning from the Korea Communications Commission.

5. Miss Mermaid
June 2002 - June 2003
