At a press conference held Monday at the 63 Convention Center in Yeouido, the singer shared her feelings about embarking on a new career as a host

“I was about to turn down the offer at first,” BoA said. “Then I got attracted to the idea of working with male trainees, while the previous season was about females.”

The veteran singer, who debuted in 2000, said she thought about her trainee days when she saw the new trainees for the program.

The first season of “Produce 101” was aired in 2016, featuring 101 female trainees from local talent agencies competing for a place in a new idol group. The show hosted by actor Jang Keun-suk had
produced the now-disbanded project girl group I.O.I and its theme song “Pick Me” was a big hit.

The second season will feature only male participants while following the same format. BoA will notify participating contenders of their tasks and also act as a mentor.

“There are many talented participants and I hope to work with them until they successfully debut as a group,” BoA said.

The show’s first episode is set to air Friday.
