MBC’s “2017 Idol Star Athletics Championships” recorded a viewership of more than 12 percent, Total National Multimedia Statistics said Tuesday.

The sports program, which started in 2010, attracted the most viewers among its competitors, outsmarting KBS’ “Syndrome Man” that was aired during the same time slot on Monday.

Producer-director Choi Haeng-ho said, “We’ve made an effort to create more opportunities for idol groups and fans to connect.”

Nearly 40 idol groups, including EXO, Seventeen, BTS, Twice and Red Velvet joined the Lunar New Year’s special program to showcase their physical abilities. The variety show featured four sporting events: track and field, archery, rhythmic gymnastics and aerobics.

New idol members stood out. Snuper’s Woosung and H.U.B’s Rui won gold medals in 60 meters sprint. Fiestar’s Cao Lu became co-champions with Mina of Twice in rhythmic gymnastics. Astro won the aerobics title.
