What happens when two strangers find themselves stranded in a spaceship headed for another planet? They fall in love. At least that is what happens in romantic sci-fi flick “Passengers,” which comes to theaters in Korea on Jan. 5.

“I thought the script was very original, the concept and the idea, so grand in scale,” said Chris Pratt during a press conference held Friday in western Seoul.

“But I don’t know what I would do in that situation,” he said. “Life is meaningless if you can’t share it with somebody. I’m very dependent on the relationships in my life and human interaction. ... Loneliness is not something that I like.”

“I had always wanted to work with Chris Pratt,” said actress Jennifer Lawrence, the co-star of the film. “When we met we became fast friends. We have a similar sense of humor.”

“I made a lifelong friend out of Jen, for sure,” said Pratt, evoking from Lawrence, “Aww.”

Directed by Morten Tyldum, the film takes place aboard a spaceship headed for a new planet. Lawrence and Pratt play Aurora Lane and Jim Preston, respectively, two characters who have woken up 90 years too soon from induced hibernation.

Unable to go back to sleep, they grapple with their existence and fall in love, when a grave problem occurs on the spaceship.

“I focused on what her reason was for leaving everything she’s ever known to go to this planet. It takes a very interesting character to make that decision,” Lawrence said on her role.

“The idea of what life is about floats through the movie,” said Pratt. “Being isolated is torture, I think.”

Jennifer Lawrence, 26, rose to fame through powerful performances in films such as “The Hunger Games” series, “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012), “American Hustle” (2013) and “Joy” (2015).

Chris Pratt, 37, initially gained fame through his role as lovable slacker Andy Dwyer on NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation,” and has since achieved massive success through superhero film “Guardians of the Galaxy” (2014) and “Jurassic World” (2015).

The film is set to hit Korean cinemas on Jan. 5.
