The Korean zombie thriller “Train to Busan” came in second place at the Chilean box office, the local trade promotion agency said Tuesday.

The action film starring Gong Yoo grabbed the second spot in ticket sales during the last week of November, followed by “Fantastic Beasts,” which is based on the novel by J.K. Rowling, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency said.

KOTRA said it marks the first time for a Korean film to be officially opened in Chilean theaters.

The zombie blockbuster, directed by the acclaimed animator Yeon Sang-ho, depicts a group of people trying to survive a mysterious virus by boarding an express train bound for Busan, a southern port city that has fended off the outbreak.

Boosted in part by the favorable reviews it received at this year‘s Cannes Film Festival where it premiered in the out of competition “Midnight Screenings” category, the film has been sold to a total of 156 countries overseas. (Yonhap)
