Entertainer Yoo Jae-suk has been chosen as the top comedian for five consecutive years in an annual public poll.

Gallup Korea canvassed 1,700 people aged 13 or over across the country last month and the 44-year-old retained the title as the best comedian of the year, gaining 45 percent of votes.

Those surveyed were asked to select two comedians who they think have shined the most in 2016.

Yoo topped the list for five years straight from 2005 to 2009.

After temporarily stepping down to No. 2 in 2010 and 2011, he reclaimed the throne in 2012 and has been on top ever since.

Lee Guk-joo and Kang Ho-dong took the second and third place for the second year. They received 14.5 and 13.1 percent of support, respectively, in this year's poll released on Thursday.

Park Na-rae rose three notches from last year to fourth place with 11.8 percent while Kim Jun-hyun and Shin Dong-yup rounded up the top six with 9.3 and 9.2 percent respectively.

"Yoo's popularity has been skyrocketing with no rival coming closely behind. However, comedians from variety television programs 'Comedy Big League' and 'Saturday Night Live Korea' are catching up," Gallop Korea said. (Yonhap)
