Quintet B1A4’s Jinyoung took part in Sunday’s “King of Mask Singer” program dressed in a lion costume.

The TV program, designed to make two singers compete against each other under hidden identities, allows the winner to go on to the next round keeping the costume and the mask.

The viewers are made to listen to the singing without any prejudices that could stem from the singers’ pre-established career, while also enjoying the guesswork of trying to discern who the singers are.

Jinyoung was dressed up as the Cowardly Lion from the well-known fantasy novel “Wizard of Oz.” He competed against Tin Man, who is also a character from the same book.

The Tin Man won 62 to 37 against Jinyoung, forcing the latter to unmask and reveal his identity.

While Jinyoung lost, he also gained compliments from the judging panel that, “He truly knows how to enjoy the music.”

Jinyoung explained on stage that he decided to participate in the music program because he is relatively unknown to fans compared to his other B1A4 groupmates.

“Some fans think I’m more of an actor, so I wanted to show them my true self as a singer,” Jinyoung said.

The 24-year-old later wrote on his Instagram, “I bet you were all surprised. I was the ‘coward lion.’”

He said, “It was unnerving at times but overall a very enjoyable experience. Please continue your love for B1A4 and Jinyoung.”

Meanwhile, B1A4 is expected to release a new album before the end of the year with a song written by Jinyoung as the lead title.
