Korean historic film on independence activist Kim Gu during Japanese occupation will kick off filming Monday.

The movie, tentatively titled “Leader Kim Chang-soo,” will star actor Cho Jin-woong as protagonist Kim Chang-soo -- second name of Kim Gu -- who was accused of killing a Japanese soldier involved in the 1895 assassination of Empress Myeongseong of the Korean empire and sentenced to death.

The movie revolves around the avenger’s life as a prisoner, before he exiles himself from Korea to establish the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.

Song Seung-heon will also feature in the movie as the warden. Budding actors Kwak Dong-yeon, who played Prince Lee Young (Park Bo-gum)’s guardian in “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds,” and Lee Seo-won, who played No Eul (Bae Suzy)‘s younger brother in “Uncontrollably Fond,” will make their big screen debuts.

Photos of the script-reading session were released on Monday.
