Speaking formally was the biggest change that actor Lee Jong-suk faced in playing the role of Kang Chul in the TV series “W,” he said in an interview with fashion magazine High Cut released Wednesday.

“(In most dramas) it is normal to change the lines, if it sounds too formal,” said the model-turned-actor, when asked about Kang Chul speaking rapidly and formally in the drama. “I (usually) change the lines into conversational language, to make it more comfortable.”

The fantasy series “W,” however, was an exception.

“In ‘W,’ I did not change a word in the script,” he said. “I have never spoken this much in other series. I just stick to whatever is written. I always carry the script with me and read it before I sleep.”

He added that the manner in which Kang Chul spoke -- faster than normal -- was as per the scriptwriter’s request.

“The writer wanted me to speak as fast as possible and at the same time to have the lines clearly delivered,” he said.

According to Lee, the scriptwriter had cited as examples he should follow tvN’s 2013 series “Nine” and the fictional private detective Sherlock Holmes in the British series “Sherlock”

Alongside the interview on his ongoing project, High Cut will release more photographs other than those released Wednesday in the September issue.
