Tourists have visited the remote city in Gangwon Province to check out the filming site of KBS 2TV's sensationally popular series that was broadcast during Feb. 24-April 14 in Korea and China.

For 11 days from Aug. 1, 7,810 people visited the Taebaek production site. The number, however, has jumped 66 percent to 12,997 since the opening on Aug. 12, making the total number of visitors surpass 20,000.

The site is a restoration of the location where, in the 16-episode series, the medical camp led by Kang Mo-yeon (Song Hye-gyo) and the Taebaek military troop headed by Yoo Si-jin (Song Joong-ki) were stationed.

An official from the city said "Some 1,000 foreign tourists visited the site between April and August. We expect more people to come when the drama goes on air in the East Asia region." (Yonhap)
