A new romance featuring two of South Korea's heartthrobs opened at the top of a TV popularity chart earlier this month, data showed Tuesday.

The KBS TV series "Uncontrollably Fond" tells the love story of an arrogant top star (Kim Woo-bin) and a shameless documentary producer (Bae Suzy) who meet again after surviving various trials in their personal lives. They thought they'd put their painful past behind them, but find themselves falling for each other again.

The drama, which premiered on July 6, scored 289.1 points on the Content Power Index for the week of July 4-10, topping the chart developed by entertainment company CJ E&M and media ratings company Nielsen Korea.

"Uncontrollably Fond" was entirely pre-filmed and is being broadcast simultaneously in South Korea and China every Wednesday and Thursday.

In second place was the SBS TV series "Doctors" with 267.5 points, followed by the music program "The King of Mask Singer" with 240.7 points.

Boosted by the appearance of idol singers such as EXO's Suho, Chan-yeol and Chen, the KBS variety show "Happy Together" jumped 11 places from the previous week to rank fourth.

The CPI measures the popularity of TV shows based on the number of views of related news stories, keyword searches and mentions on social media. (Yonhap)
